We’re checked in and legal in Costa Rica. A full day to check in but pretty straightforward. So far our impression of Costa Rica is that it’s lush and clean, but very expensive. Most things in the store are more expensive than US prices, though the selection is better than in El Salvador. Hopefully if we get into a non-tourist town things will be more reasonable. We’ll start heading down the Costa Rica coast later today.

We have internet but it's very slow, too slow to upload any pictures.

Cheers,
Carolynn & Tom

We’re in a pretty little bay that up until yesterday was fairly calm. Last night we got to rocking and rolling, not much sleep. I think we'll move on today, but first I wanted to post a few more scenes from El Salvador:

All of the busses are privately owned and most sport colorful paint jobs:

The sugar cane harvest, it’s amazing how much can be stuffed into a pick-up truck:

Another picture of the hotel macaws:

The hotel also has a small herd of local deer and a baby was born, this is her/him at a day or two old:

Making a Kayuka out of a log

A local restaurant in the estuary

Carolynn’s mother and brother visited for a wonderful two weeks. My mom with a cute little parrot:

Tom & Chuck contemplating a surf spot:

One day we took a road trip to get closer to the volcanoes:

Overall we had a great time in El Salvador, but it was time to move on.
Tom getting ready to dive into a swimming hole in Santa Elena, CR

Opps, when we left the dingy a few hours ago it was just at the edge of the water, now we have to drag it 500 feet!

5/27/2011 Bahia Santa Elena, Costa Rica

We are currently in a beautiful, nearly landlocked bay in north western Costa Rica. We haven't seen another boat for over three days, in fact there's not a single sign of human life in the bay or as far as we can see. I'm sitting here in a perfectly calm boat with only the sounds of parrots flying overhead, dolphins feeding in the bay and a gentle rain falling. Alas we will be moving on tomorrow to Playa Cocos to check in to the country. I have some more pictures from El Salvador that I'll post when next we see civilization and the internet.
Cheers
